Blogs are the current trend in online marketing strategies and the majority of website owners maintain their own blogs with the aim of drawing in more web traffic. Even personal sites are now presented in blog format. Easy-set-up blogging platforms such as BlogIt and Wordpress are very popular and keep attracting hundreds of new blog writers every day. There are millions of bloggers from around the world making their presence known on the World Wide Web. With so many blogs, it's hardly a revelation when you find out not all blogs are interesting to readers.

Sadly, once they've created a blog, the majority of bloggers simply put it aside to take care of other more pressing matters in their daily lives. The once important need to tell the world about what they think goes away and the blog post content just gets too old to interest anyone. Keeping your blog interesting takes some effort and presenting the content creatively will definitely give an extra edge.

In principle, there are only two methods to maintain an interesting blog and keep the visitors returning all the time. The first step is to find a good topic which follows news stories, publications, incidents and issues etc that are of general interest to the public.

Blogging is about keeping your readers interested and not letting things get dull and boring. Topics must be broadened to include a variety of interests, which will get more people to comment and discuss their views. Never hesitate to blog about something you feel people will be interested in.

If your intentions are to draw as much web traffic as possible, you simply have to concentrate on writing interesting things for the worldwide readers. Of course, topics such as religion, politics, racism and controversial sciences are better left undiscussed, because the goal is to share ideas and opinions on common ground and avoid discriminative discussions. New content always attracts more people, so it's a good idea to update your blog frequently.

The second rule of blogging is locating good links. Without writing long essays about things that may interest people, you can simply find some interesting stories, articles or discussions on the web and provide links to them from your blog.

Use your blog posting space to talk about why a visitor should check it out and what they can get from visiting that specific link. The trick here is to get the visitors and direct them to another place to read interesting content, while achieving your goal of bringing in traffic as well as keeping the blog interesting.

Producing the best blog or locating it in the huge internet world is quite a daunting task. Not surprisingly, you will run out of interesting topics, so the trick is to keep your eyes open for breaking news and stories to make your blog interesting.

There is only one reason to build a website or create a blog; to get people to read your message. It doesn't matter whether you created your website or blog for fun, to share your views about a subject important to you, or to make money, the more visitors to your site, the better.

Of course, not all website visitors are equal. Ideally, a high percentage your website visitors should be folks interested in the subject of your site, not surfers who wind up there by accident.

And, it's better still if your traffic is free...if it comes as a result of good search engine rankings or free links on other websites rather than from paid advertising.

Think about these things for a minute and the first million dollar "secret" becomes obvious. If you want your website to get as much traffic as possible...if you want that traffic to be targeted, good search engine rankings are critical.

Nobody can argue against the often made statement that "content is king" in developing a good website and in achieving enviable search engine rankings. And, if you emphasize the wrong keywords on your website and in your promotional activities, you're sunk. But, anything and everything else you do will not get you where you want to be in the search engine rankings without an aggressive, ongoing link building effort.

Many website owners have received thousands of links (literally) by writing articles not unlike this one. If well received, a single article can result in nearly 1,000 links. And, there are organizations which will distribute your articles for a fee, and software programs which enable you to do so pretty quickly and easily.

Requesting links on individual websites can also lead to a big boost in your search engine rankings. And, there are software programs that automate the process of identifying websites on subjects related to yours and contacting their webmasters. Alternatively, you can accomplish the same things manually, but it will be far more time consuming.

The organization I oversee has offered a free, ten lesson website promotion course for nearly ten years. During that time, website owners have told us, again and again, that the most helpful of our ten lessons has been the one on link building.

Webmasters who want as much traffic as possible (and who among us doesn't?) need to commit to a focused, aggressive link building effort. If they do, their efforts are almost certain to be rewarded.
